First Blog Post: About the Name & Why I Started

Hello! Welcome to This Work In Progress. This is my first blog, so that is exactly what it is: a work in progress! I chose this name after an exceedingly long period of thinking. I had thought of everything from an oversimplified “My Life” to an over-complicated method of word scrambling and looking up old fashioned words for “writer.” For a while I just stopped thinking about it. I got a little discouraged after finding out that a popular modern meaning of “blotter” was a method of taking LSD, not a blotter of ink… needless to say, that’s not the kind of title I was going for.

So, finally, knowing that this is something I really should do, I went back to the drawing board. Going back to my list of names and pulling out certain ideas that I knew I wanted to talk about, “This Work In Progress” almost immediately resonated with me. My mom and I constantly use this phrase when referring to our own personal development. Like a piece of poetry, we are never completely finished, but always a work in progress.

I found it to be a very appropriate name for this blog because it has several meanings. For one, it is my first time blogging, and I know it will take some time to get into the swing of things – working on it consistently and making progress. But also, it fits with what I want to share here. We are all our own works in progress. Life is a work in progress. I want to share my own experiences, adventures, and personal journeys in the hope that I can help others – help you – in one way or another.

I am writing this blog to work on myself, to help myself grow, and I hope it can do the same for you!
